Advocating on the behalf of BCFPA members towards equal and responsive regulations, providing input and influencing government programs and policies, and developing valuable programs and services for BCFPA members.

Member issues on which the committee is hard at work:

• Ensuring that processors are properly licensed to sell outside of their trading area and that product is properly labelled
• CFIA - testing for toxins in rice
• CFIA - labelling and testing for mercury
• Property tax issue: food processing plants are Class 6 (hotels, motels, others) and are exempt from a reduction of 50% in school taxes available to Class 5 (light industry)
• Carbon tax, effective July 1, 2010, companies are assessed the new carbon tax
• Labour issues - are you having problems getting Labour Market Opinions approved?
