Functional Food and Natural Health Products Group
The newly formed BCFPA Functional Food and Natural Health Products Group (FFNHP) is designed to provide a forum for FFNHP focused members through group interaction and speakers on topics of interest to the group. The founding Task Group members are working on integrating FFNHP needs into the realm of BCFPA.

Meeting Format
Monthly meetings of participants for roundtable discussion and experiences shared that can benefit members. Additionally, where possible a plant tour in the host facility will be offered. The goal is for the BCFPA to provide member companies with learning opportunities across a broad range of FFNHP focused topics through presentations made by specialists in the identified areas of interest.

Speaker: Lance Hill, Food Policy Liaison Officer, Health Canada, BC Region – Transitioning Food Products at the Food-Natural Health Product Interface to the Food Regulatory Framework
Health Canada has previously indicated its intent to resolve the confusion around foods that are marketed as Natural Health Products (NHP). Since May 2010, the department has been working with manufacturers to safely transition food products currently marketed as NHPs to the food regulatory framework while attempting to minimize disruption to the stream of commerce. As a first step Health Canada announced in October 2011 its intent to transition caffeinated energy drinks to the food regulatory framework. Additional categories of foods currently being marketed as NHPs will begin to transition in April 2012. It is expected that the transition process will be completed by December 2012.
