This regulation requires all meat produced in BC for sale for human consumption to pass through a licensed, inspected slaughter facility. Meat from a provincially licensed facility can only be sold within BC.
Policy for BC's meat inspection and licensing system is directed by the Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport.
The provincial inspection and licensing system is managed by the BC Centre for Disease Control, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority.
The BC CDC publishes and updates a list of provincially licensed facilities in BC.
There are also 13 federally registered facilities in BC.
