The Graphic Designer will work under general supervision to create or coordinate the creation of electronic and/or printed graphic materials. This individual will use extensive knowledge of specialized design concepts, media, and software tools to develop comprehensive layouts and the production of product labels, packaging design and marketing collateral. As a Graphic Designer, you are able to conceptualize ideas graphically with minimal instruction, excel at visual storytelling and art direction of content. This includes designing presentations, creating infographics, visuals for social media, and, when necessary, coordinating with other designers, production artists, freelancers, photographers, illustrators, prepress technicians and printers. Graphic Designers conceptualize and produce graphic art and visual materials to effectively communicate information for publications, advertising, packaging, posters, signs and interactive media such as Web sites.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Label and packaging production artist to create, modify and maintain labeling standards
  • Consult with clients to review, recommend and implement appropriate improvements on brand identity, such as logo, color, typefaces and layout, as well as establish the overall look, graphic elements and content of communications materials in order to meet their needs
  • Create and develop print and digital graphics media, such as advertisement, trade-show related materials, presentation, website and other promotional materials
  • Design and produce corporate communication materials to support marketing efforts (brochures, catalogues, awards submissions, website and social media graphics for online platforms, presentations following the guidelines to branding and messaging etc.)
  • Develop and create unique and accurate graphic materials for printing (labels, posters, catalogs)
  • Develop, implement and execute of a variety of marketing and sales support projects
  • Participate in creative brainstorming and collaboration to design consumer and trade marketing assets that drive business growth, across all touchpoints including print, digital, sales and experiential
  • Creation of templates for product packaging; cross referencing, proofing and pre-flight preparation of all production files while exhibiting high attention to detail for accuracy and consistency
  • Multi-task and prioritize projects to meet tight deadlines and accommodating unexpected urgency's
  • Maintain and coordinate all visual/graphic asset files as well as to provide accessible and optimized finished files/artwork for sales teams and internal departments
  • Design and/or modify all promotional material, keeping consistency across brand category, following processes involved per category, constantly keeping dead lines
  • Generate barcodes and edited text according to Canada Health regulations in order to issue the Natural Product Number known as NPN number, adapting layouts and typography without affecting consistency within each label/box category
  • Determine the medium best suited to produce the desired visual effect and the most appropriate vehicle for communication
  • Estimate cost of materials and time to complete graphic design
  • Use existing photo and illustration banks and typography guides to produce images that meet clients' communications needs
  • Estimating the time required to complete the work and providing quotes on the resources needed
  • Create packaging designs and ensure all designs are within budget
  • Manipulate graphic and vector images with artistic flare for internal brand development
  • Use editing software to optimize external images for promotional purposes
  • Consistently follow and upgrade company brand guidelines
  • Review and improve existing creative assets (company presentations, templates, graphics, images etc.)
  • Develop a creative plan to support ongoing communications and marketing campaign activities
  • Think creatively to produce new ideas and concepts
  • Work with a wide range of media, including photography, illustration and computer-aided design
  • Monitor print and material quality for received design samples and creating instructions on what needs to be adjusted and fixed
  • Reviewing final layouts and proofs, and suggesting improvements if required
  • Documenting and archiving company's design output in the most accessible manner
  • Follow brand standards according to the brand style guide, including appropriate use of logo, trademark, colors and design elements
  • Liaise with staff when required to assess needs and discuss strategies, tools, best practices, requirements for design
  • Serves as project coordinator with external suppliers from estimate to delivery and distribution
  • Collaborate with management to edit complex label files for over 100 label SKUs with a high degree of accuracy under tight deadlines
  • Create and manage multiple label file outputs and label content preparations used by marketing, print production, operations, and international clients
  • Immerse yourself in the supplement and health industry while learning and applying knowledge about the benefits of supplement ingredients
  • Maintain up to date and active knowledge of GMP and Health Canada label regulations
  • Plan production schedules and workflow for the entire design process
  • Develop specifications and standards for printing and other production
  • Identify, source, and select vendors/service providers for printing and publication services, as necessary (e.g. illustrators, printers, typesetters, photographers, etc.)
  • Inspect proofs for accuracy and adherence to corporate standards
  • Coordinate and maintain a library of graphics, media, digital records, and other enterprise content
  • Where necessary, write and edit marketing copy, Web copy, etc.

Employment Requirements:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED
  • At least 5 years of direct work experience as a graphic designer
  • Creative ability and artistic talent, as demonstrated by a portfolio of work, are required for graphic designers and illustrators
  • Proficiency in Adobe's creative suite, primarily Photoshop and Illustrator
  • A good understanding of and experience in corporate branding, layout and typography in both print and digital
  • Savvy and knowledgeable about current marketing trends and technologies
  • Strong applied knowledge of impactful and concise design layouts, forms, and typography for print and web
  • Highly creative, strategic thinker with ability to develop fresh, executable ideas
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage multiple assignments in a short turnaround time
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially when applied to marketing and brand communications
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an unconditionally positive attitude to work effectively in a small team environment
  • Creative and inventive thinker and problem-solver with a 'can do' and 'will do' attitude
  • Detail oriented, patient and careful
  • Well versed in the latest graphic design methods, practices, techniques, and associated principles
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Able to identify, select, and coordinate vendors for printing needs
  • Strong interpretive skills to analyze technical information and create illustrations

Bonus Skills:

• Degree or Diploma in Arts, Fine Arts, Web/Graphic Design, Advertising/Public Relations

• Understanding color and design theory (typography, colour theory etc.)

• Understanding HTML, CSS, PHP, Flash and JavaScript
