BC Food Processors Association Announces Additions to its Board of Directors
The BC Food Processors Association (www.bcfpa.ca) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors. The new Directors are Gillian Buergin, COO at the Rhema Group, and David Guthrie, a Partner in KPMG’s Enterprise Practice.
Gillian Buergin is Chief Operating Officer at the Rhema Group, a custom manufacturer and packager of natural health products with divisions in Canada and the United States. Prior to joining Rhema in 2010 as Vice President Operations, Gillian was introduced to BC food manufacturing at The Original Cakerie following her move from Ontario.
Gillian holds an MBA from Athabasca University, as well as a BA in Economics and BSc in Applied Chemistry from the University of Waterloo and Ryerson University respectively. With extensive experience in lean manufacturing, quality systems design, strategic sourcing, and human resources management, Gillian’s strength lies in redesigning processes to achieve operational excellence and using the tension created by challenging conditions to creatively solve problems. She takes great pride in motivating and inspiring individuals to peak performance and igniting cultural change through visionary leadership, open communication, trusting relationships, and business practices built on a solid foundation of core values.
Gillian says ‘I am very pleased to be joining the BC Food Processors Association Board of Directors. Since becoming acquainted with the Association I have been impressed by the dedication and commitment shown by its leaders and members to strengthening BC's food and natural health product industry.’ She added ‘I look forward to working closely with CEO James Donaldson and the other board members during the next phase of the Association's growth.’
David Guthrie became a Partner with KPMG in 2011, and is the Leader of KPMG’s Food and Agri-Business practice in the Fraser Valley. David has extensive experience providing audit, accounting, tax and other advisory services to owner-managed businesses in the food sector as well as agricultural organizations. He understands the dynamics of the food industry; from food producers, food processors, and marketing boards to other agencies and ending at the consumers’ plate.
After obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University in 1999, David immediately joined KPMG and obtained his CA designation in 2001. David is also passionate about Community and is a member of the Chilliwack Mt. Cheam Rotary Club and Director on the Chilliwack Children’s Foundation.
David is excited to join the Board of the BCFPA. He stated ‘I plan to bring my knowledge and industry experience to the BCFPA to strengthen the Board and add value to its members’.
