Chez Christophe takes Gold in BC Food Processors Association’s Product of the Year Award

Vancouver, BC -  The BC Food Processors Association (BCFPA) announced the winners of the Product of the Year Award at their annual Awards Gala Dinner as part of their 10th annual FoodProWest on June 8, 2017 at the Westin Bayshore.  The Gold Medal was awarded to Chez Christophe and his puff pastry Flutes, which was presented by award sponsor MNP.

400 of BC’s top food & beverage processors and industry leaders came together to honour their colleagues at the prestigious Gala Awards Dinner hosted by the BC Food Processors Association.

Joining Chez Christophe in the winners’ circle were Spread ‘Em Kitchen, whose vegetable and cashew spreads took home the Silver Medal, while Quesava Kitchen’s Quejos Gluten Free Cheese Buns received the Bronze.

Wooden Boat was also recognized with an Honourable Mention for their Nuoc Cham sauce.

“It is an honour to have our flutes win the Product of the Year Award,” says Christophe Bonzon, pastry chef and owner of Chez Christophe Chocolaterie Patisserie. “The flutes are really versatile and can be paired with a variety of dishes like a charcuterie board or with wine tastings. The reception for them has been great and I’m so happy because they are actually an integral part of my Swiss culture."

Twenty six companies participated in a fierce competition before a panel of judges in a Dragon’s Den style format, which took place on March 16th at BCIT.  Vancouver food blogger and Top Chef Canada judge Mijune Pak chaired the judging panel, which consisted of Vikram Vij of Vij’s, Ken Clark of Overwaitea Food Group, White Spot Executive Chef Danny Marcowicz, Charles Chang of Lyra Growth, Jeff Nadon of Sobey’s and James Street with the BC Ministry of Agriculture.

“This is one of my favourite competitions to judge because it showcases what BC has to offer in terms in ingredients, talent, and innovation.” Said Pak. “It is inspiring to hear from self-starters who are investing in passions, and the stories hit close to home and my heart. This is only the beginning for our winners and nominees, and the success stories have yet to come” she added.

“This competition just seems to get fiercer each year” added James Donaldson, BCFPA CEO. “It’s not easy to present to a panel of judges in a format like that, but you really get to see the passion from each nominee shine through, and we had another outstanding group of products nominated this year” added Donaldson.

The event was once again sponsored by MNP. ‘MNP was pleased to sponsor the 2017 Product of the Year Award. We have been involved with BCFPA for several years and have been sponsoring this award for a few years now. It is exciting to be part of this unique award and seeing the wide diversity of products presented and seeing the efforts to develop and provide innovative food and beverage products to the marketplace.” Said Ken Bulthuis,

Product of the Year Award, sponsored by MNP: The Product of the Year Award recognizes a product that shows innovation; criteria include taste (if applicable), product packaging, marketing, innovation, and environmental impact.
