Speaker Announcements: Slips, Trips, and Falls Prevention with WorkSafeBC
We are incredibly excited to announce the addition of 4 amazing panel speakers to the mainstage at our joint event with WorkSafeBC: Slips, Trips and Falls Prevention on October 3.
#1: Craig Ogilvie is the Plant Manager with Conagra Foods Canada and has more than 20 years of experience within the Food & Beverage, Pharmaceutical and Construction industries. OSSE certified since 2015, Gardein (Conagra Foods Canada) is an award-winning manufacturer of meatless meats. The company also won the prestigious BC Food and Beverage Workplace Safety Award in 2017, and is a finalist for the 2019 BC Food and Beverage Leadership Award.
#2: Originally from Calgary, Dr. Vicki Komisar completed her bachelor’s degree in Engineering Science (University of Toronto), and her master’s (Imperial College London) and doctoral (University of Toronto / Toronto Rehab-University Health Network) in biomedical engineering.
Her research and development program focuses broadly on promoting safe mobility and preventing falls and fall-related injuries, which she addresses by studying the physical factors that affect balance control and recovery (e.g., handrail and stairway design, and how they interact with posture). Her findings from both policy recommendations and the design of mobility aids. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Stephen Robinovitch’s Injury Prevention and Mobility Laboratory at Simon Fraser University.
#3. Stan Schaefer, founder of ANTI-SLIP ANYWHERE, sought to make the world a safer place in 2008 when he formed his first company, Tile Safe Products. His many years as a trainer and floor safety specialist (both locally and internationally) provided him with the knowledge and the background to teach people about floor safety. He also created the International Floor Safety Council so that he could share information with others and learn best practices. His company, Tile Safe (now known as ANTI-SLIP ANYWHERE) carries a complete line of these floor safety products to make practically any floor Anti-Slip.
#4. Michael Bain is the store manager for the Work Authority store at Langley, BC. Work Authority is a safety footwear retail company that has more than 75 years of experience in the industry and is one of Canada's largest retailer of safety shoes and boots, safety apparel and accessories. Mike has been with Work Authority for 11 years and during that time he helped several employers to assess their workplace hazards and the corresponding footwear protection options.
#5. Roger Hall is the Safety Manager for RIMEX Supply Ltd. He has worked for the company for 7 years, and is responsible for the safety system for the Agassiz and Langley Plants. He is responsible is for approximately 200 staff. Prior to his current position he was employed in the Forest Industry for 30 years doing various roles.
