Speaker Spotlight: Cannabis Edibles - Ready Set Go!

We are delighted to announce our speakers for our October 24th cannabis seminar, Cannabis Edibles: Ready Set Go. Sophie Mas – Somas Consulting

Sophie Mas has over 20 years’ experience working in senior roles in the public safety, regulatory and compliance sector for the Province of British Columbia. Until April 2018, Sophie was the Director of the BC Cannabis Legalization and Regulation Secretariat which led the development of the provincial regulatory framework for cannabis in BC.  In her role, she provided strategic leadership, provincial oversight and management of the cannabis legalization and regulation initiative for British Columbia. She also worked with Health Canada, municipalities and other provinces to develop legislation, regulations and policies to regulate non-medical cannabis. 

Sophie is the CEO and founder of Somas Consulting Inc., a consulting company that provides advice and guidance to companies on regulatory, compliance and commercial matters related to cannabis.

Alon Segev – Managing Partner – Segev LLP

Alon Segev is the Managing Partner for Segev LLP. With strong practise areas in hospitality, food production and service, combined with a broad cannabis practice, Alon and Segev LLP are well prepared to engage with members of the BC Food Processors Association on entry to the cannabis edibles market.

Segev LLP represents cultivators, dispensaries, CBD extractors, oil extractors, food processors, media and marketing companies, consultancies and other businesses in the cannabis industry.

Our work includes regulatory and compliance, real estate, JV and M&A, IP management, licensing and commercialization, commercial work, vendor agreements, employment law, private venture finance, and public markets finance.  We act as the outside in-house legal team to some of the fastest growing Cannabis companies in Canada.

Maria Gonzalez – MNP

Maria Gonzalez leads MNP’s Food and Beverage Manufacturing and Cannabis consulting practices in BC and is based in Vancouver. Drawing on more than eight years of consulting experience, Maria assists food, beverage and cannabis clients in the areas of market development, strategy, and business and financial planning. Specifically, Maria has direct experience working with cannabis companies across the cannabis supply chain, nationwide, including licensed cannabis producers, ancillary service providers, and cannabis retail operators. Through her work in cannabis, Maria brings a unique understanding of the Canadian cannabis industry, including its evolving trends and regulations.

Gary Cohen – Cova Software

Gary Cohen is the CEO of Cova Software, the fastest growing technology brand in the cannabis industry. Cohen’s focus has been driving the company’s overall strategy, including its go-to-market plans, vision, and strategic development. Since joining the cannabis industry in 2016 and launching Cova commercially in 4q17, Cohen has led Cova to dominate the enterprise sector for dispensary Point of Sale, while forging client relationships with hundreds of single-store retailers across North America.

Today, Cohen leads seminars and delivers speeches on topics including compliance, retail technology, sophisticated business operations, cannabis banking laws and more at some of the industry’s largest conferences and events, including the NCIA Seed to Sale Show and MJBizCon. While Cova has become the predominate thought leader for cannabis retailing, Cohen is a leading voice for educating new cannabis entrepreneurs to build their own successful brands.
